23 Blast in Theaters

October 28th, 2014

A few weeks ago we informed you about a new football-related Christian film, 23 Blast. Well, this film is now available in over 500 theaters around the country! The synopsis for this film reads:

" When a high school football star is suddenly stricken with irreversible, total blindness, he must decide whether to live a safe, protected life or to summon the courage through playing football to step back into the world.

23 Blast is based on the amazing, true story of Travis Freeman. A typical teenager growing up in a small town in Kentucky, Travis is a local hero on and off the field. In the prime of his youth, he is unexpectedly stricken with an infection that destroys his optic nerve; he becomes blind overnight.

Under the influence of parents who love him, a physical therapist who challenges him, a coach who inspires him, and a best friend who he cannot bear to leave behind, Travis shows us what true bravery is by competing on the gridiron, helping his team advance to the State playoffs. We follow Travis and Jerry Baker, his closest friend, from the time they meet on the football field as kids through high school. Jerry’s attraction to the dark side of teenage temptations threatens to pull the friends apart. It is only on the football field where they truly connect.

Depicting a story of hope triumphing over despair, of courage and faith overcoming fear and of victory prevailing over adversity, 23 Blast is designed to encourage and uplift audiences."

Midwest Christian Filmmakers Academy 2014

October 18th, 2014

Midwest Christian Filmmakers Academy 2014

It would seem that in the absence of the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, several others have stepped up to take the place of both the missing festival and the academy. We've already mentioned the Christian Worldview Film Festival taking place in San Antonio next year, and now there's a Filmmakers Academy coming to Fargo, North Dakota. The Midwest Christian Filmmakers Academy, running from November 5th to November 8th, 2014, is an academy aimed at anyone ages 14 and up that is seriously interested in pursuing a filmmaking career. The details for the academy say:

"Few opportunities exist for Christians to network and learn the practical skills of filmmaking in a context grounded in the word of God. The MWCFA was created to provide this opportunity. Taught by experienced filmmaker John-Clay Burnett and Art Director Carol Kiemle, 12-15 attendees will gain hands-on experience making a high quality promotional film. They will participate in art design, cinematography, editing, and much more. They will network with other Christian filmmakers and, most importantly, gain a vision for excellence in film as a means of bringing honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. The MWCFA desires to be a bright light shining in a dark place, used by the Lord toward the transformation of film to the glory of God."

This looks like an exciting opportunity to learn more about the "hands-on" aspect of filmmaking. If you're interested in possibly attending this academy, you can learn more about it on their website at mwcfa.org. There you can also find out about their online webinars and some of the other things they are involved in. We look forward to seeing how the MWCFA will grow in the years ahead!

Kendrick Brothers' Movie Five Update

October 9th, 2014

One of the questions most commonly asked around here is "what about the next Kendrick Brothers movie?" Well, we've reported a couple of updates over the last few months, and we've just received another one. They have now officially finished filming and have now entered into the post-production phase of the film. The movie is still being called "Movie Five" for the time being, but an official title should be coming soon! The statement from the Kendrick Brothers said:

"Currently, we are editing the scenes, and the exciting phase of post-production is underway. Release of the movie title will come soon, but in the meantime, please pray for us and this movie. We need God’s continued blessing, favor, protection, and guidance to cover this entire process - down to the last frame. Our goal is to release this movie in the fall of 2015, and we’re asking God to bless and reign over everything related to it, and for Him to receive all honor and glory for what has and will be accomplished."
