Spotlight: Jimmy

Jimmy (2013) - Christian Film

Recently, I watched an excellent new Christian film called Jimmy, an adaption of Robert Whitlow's book of the same name. The description reads:

Jimmy is a story about an over-looked mentally challenged boy who views the world through his own unique lens. Through the course of life-changing events during one Fall season, Jimmy's family and those around him come to fully realize his impact on their community.

Jimmy's world is a place where a boy can grow to be a man, even if he is "special". Where angels hover, mostly unseen. Where danger can happen, and hearts can falter - but love is never wasted. Jimmy knows he's different from the other teenagers in Piney Grove, Georgia. He doesn't always understand what he sees and hears, but he remembers it all with uncanny accuracy, which is why his lawyer father asks him to testify in a crucial trial. Jimmy's testimony saves the man from jail but has far-reaching consequences for himself and the people he loves. Filled with Southern characters at once familiar and unexpected, Jimmy is an extraordinary tale about growing up in the midst of real struggle. From the first encounter with Jimmy to the last triumphant goodbye, Jimmy will enthrall and delight.

Jimmy truly is a powerful and riveting movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ian Colleti, the actor who plays Jimmy, does an absolutely superb acting job and we were all blown away by his acting talent. If you're looking for a good Christian film to watch, we can highly recommend Jimmy.

Special thanks to the Beckers for helping with this post!

Spotlight: Seven Days in Utopia

Seven Days in Utopia

If you're looking for another Christian film for a movie night or to add to your collection, another great movie to consider is Seven Days in Utopia, a film about a young golfer who winds up in a little town called Utopia. The full description reads:

Seven Days In Utopia follows the story of Luke Chisolm(Lucas Black), a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. When his first big shot turns out to be a very public disaster, Luke escapes the pressures of the game and finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Utopia, Texas, home to eccentric rancher Johnny Crawford (Robert Duvall). But Johnny's more than meets the eye, and his profound ways of looking at life force Luke to question not only his past choices, but his direction for the future.

This film makes some very interesting points and has a very surprise ending which sets it apart from many other sports movies. Another excellent film, Seven Days in Utopia is definitely worth watching.

Pilgrim's Progress - Journey to Heaven

Pilgrims Progress - Journey to Heaven Movie Review

Pilgrims Progress - Journey to Heaven is a modern adaption of a book most everyone has heard about by John Bunyan. It follows a man named Christian and his journey to find the Celestial City, and the many obstacles he encounters along the way. The story is an impressive and thought-provoking allegory of the christian life, and it is interesting to see their take on this timeless story.

It is well worth noting how they added a new layer to the story by setting it in the modern world, and not simply retelling the story exactly how it was in the book. For example, in the beginning of the movie you see Christian living in a typical, modern-looking house and neighborhood.

The overall quality of Pilgrim's Progress is very good, with amazing effects and lots of well-done scenes. Between each scene or "obstacle" a map animation shows Christian's progress which is very fun to follow throughout the movie. It features many incredible video and animation effects, which definitely bring a more epic feel to the film.

The story and point of Pilgrim's Progress masterfully shows a Christian's journey from a life as a sinner to ultimate redemption and forgiveness in the end, if only you endure through the many trials of the world.

At about an hour and 45 minutes long, it is perfect for a fun, family movie night. It contains no objectionable language and only a few scenes featuring very brief violence and occasional appearances of demon-like creatures that might frighten younger audiences. All in all, this would be a very fun film to watch together as a family, and can prompt many discussion questions to discuss together as a family. With good acting, and an impressive adaption of an amazing story, I would highly recommend you add this film to your collection.

Kirk Cameron's "Unstoppable" Blocked by Facebook & Youtube

July 19th, 2013

Kirk Cameron's Unstoppable Movie blocked by YouTube and Facebook

There has been a lot of commotion lately over Kirk Cameron's newest film, "Unstoppable", premiering in theaters on September 24th. The description reads:

"Kirk Cameron returns to movie theaters September 24 with the follow-up to his record-breaking, one-night theatrical event, Monumental. In Unstoppable, a brand-new documentary, Kirk takes you on a personal and inspiring journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raiser in faith: Why? Kirk goes back to the beginning—literally—as he investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. Reminding us that there is great hope, Unstoppable creatively asks—and answers—the age-old question: Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?"

This is Kirk Cameron's latest video project, and it promises to be a great movie and follow up to last year's Monumental. We look forward to bringing you updates on the film and adding it to our new movies section shortly.

But there's more to the story.

On Kirk Cameron's Facebook page yesterday, it was discovered they couldn't post a link to their website, as it had been blocked by Facebook. Kirk Cameron posted this on his Facebook page:

"Calling all friends of Faith, Family, and Freedom! Facebook has officially "blocked" me and you (and everyone else) from posting any link to my new movie at UnstoppableTheMovieDOTcom, labeling the content as "abusive", "unsafe", and "spammy"! I can't even write the real link here, or Facebook would block this post too!! Try to post it yourself and see! We have been officially shut down by Facebook and unable to get any response from them. This is my most personal film about faith, hope, and love, and about why God allows bad things to happen to good people. What is "abusive" or "unsafe" about that?! Please help us encourage Facebook to unblock our website soon by sharing this post with your friends so more people can see this transparent, faith-building project."

This message was shared over 250,000 times on Facebook and a few hours ago, the block was finally taken off by Facebook. it was posted on the Unstoppable Facebook page:

"Interesting happenings with Unstoppable, Facebook, and YOU. "After Cameron alerted more than 500,000 Facebook fans of his predicament, the social networking site removed the block—without any explanation. 'This is a real victory,' he said, thanking his fans and supporters for reaching out to Facebook. 'If we work together, we really do have a voice.'”

So after some controversy, Facebook finally removed the block on the website, and it is now freely shareable. However, it was also discovered that a ban had been placed on the trailer for Unstoppable by YouTube, and as of this writing, the video is still not viewable by the public. we'll try to update you when this video is finally made available again.

Kirk Cameron's unstoppable blocked by YouTube

What do you think of Facebook and Youtube's decision to block Kirk Cameron's Unstoppable? Was this merely a mistake or a purposeful attempt to block this video from public viewing? Let us know in the comments below!

UPDATE - It looks like the YouTube channel is finally active again. Be sure to go check it out and support Kirk Cameron with this project!

ANOTHER UPDATE - Kirk Cameron is back online now and had this to say on Friday on his Facebook page:

"You did it again!! Because of your firm, loving, and clear voice, not only did Facebook welcome us back, YouTube also removed its block on our Unstoppable movie trailer. We are back online with full access. Thank you!! Fox News, Huffington Post, Entertainment Tonight, ABC, Drudge, and others have heard about your accomplishment and my phone is ringing off the hook to talk with me about how powerful the faith community is to accomplish good things when we put our hearts and minds together. They are listening!!

Now let's make sure NOTHING stops UNSTOPPABLE from coming to a theater in your town on Sept. 24th. Buy your tickets today. If we sell out all the seats in your neighborhood theater, NOTHING can stop it from playing there. Theaters full of people who love God, even in the midst of tragedy is a powerful witness to EVERYONE that life is stronger than death, good is stronger than evil, and faith is stronger than doubt. Get your tickets now at:
www.UnstoppableTheMovie.com"

Kirk Cameron Youtube and Faceboook unblocked

We definitely need to make sure that this film gets released. We need to be willing to support this film and Kirk Cameron with the amazing work he is doing!

Review: GarageBand for ios

July 16th, 2013

GarageBand for ios review
The guitar instrument in GarageBand...

For many people, (myself included) one of the hardest things about making a movie is finding the perfect background music. Sure, stock sound effects can be found with a little bit of effort, but finding stock music is a little harder. Some music may sound good, but doesn't fit the scene. It may not have the right tone or mood, and it just sounds rather odd or awkwardly placed in the scene.

One obvious solution is to hire a composer to write new music for you, but that can get very expensive very fast. If you want a fun, simple $5 solution, I would highly recommend the Garageband app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

With GarageBand, you can play many different instruments and piece them together to create music. Using different instruments (including the very useful "strings" instrument) you can create simple background music that fits smoothly with your movie. You can take control to decide what goes where and not be limited to whatever the stock music sounds like.

The very intuitive drum instrument. You can also switch to a drum machine, and other drum sounds (such as vintage drums, studio drums, etc.)

The app contains a wide variety of instruments, ranging from dozens of keyboard patches, to guitar (bass, acoustic, and electric), to drums, and even an entire strings section (which can be played individually or altogether).

GarageBand for ios review
The easy to use keyboard with 80 different patches on it.

All of your recordings can be mixed together in an 8 track mixer where you can easily move around all of your recordings, fix small note mistakes, trim off sections, and make sure everything fits together. From there you can easily email yourself the file and add it your movie.

GarageBand for ios review
The strings section of Garageband where you can easily add or remove parts of the orchestra.

While obviously this isn't going to replace a professional orchestra, it is a very easy way to create simple music that fits with your video. I would highly recommend it for simple videos, and it's very easy to use at home or on the go.

What do you think of this app? Have you used the Mac version of it? What do you think of either version? Let us know!

Web Update - Limited Wifi Access

July 14th, 2013

Over the next two weeks, we may have trouble connecting to wifi, so please bear with us as we may not be able to post blog posts as often as we have been. Fortunately, the site shouldn't experience any downtime, so CFC will still be publicly viewable. We will hopefully be watching several christian films over these next two weeks, and we should have a few movie reviews up on our blog soon. Please stay with us and be sure to explore the other sections on our site while we try to update the blog as best as we can!
