If you've followed Christian Film Central for a while, you may know that we're big fans of crowd-funding projects. Today we bring you a new film being produced by Darrien Murphy, producer of the short film Help Me. He's trying to turn this short film into a feature-length film Hamlet's Mouse Trap and he's trying to crowd-fund it through Indiegogo. The synopsis for this film reads:
"Hamlet’s Mouse-trap is an elegant suspense thriller which, as the title suggests, is in the tradition of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This is the story of Maria, a contemporary descendant of the Imperial House of Romanov, whose mother was murdered during a robbery in their home. Maria has set out to discover why her mother was murdered and by whom – but she must also decide whether she will commit an act that would betray her faith, her family’s legacy, and her mother’s memory.
One year after witnessing her mother’s final moments, Maria is a different person. Consumed by never ending grief, her natural sensitivity and reflective tendencies are at constant odds with her ferocious will. Her moral nature is in deep disorder and the self-imposed duty of revenge is a painful burden that she is barely able to support.
The authorities have lied to her, calling her mother’s death a robbery gone tragically wrong. However, Maria is convinced that her mother was actually the victim of a planned murder. Having stumbled upon her mother’s beloved – and supposedly stolen – antique mourning cross in her father’s office, she also believes that her father may know who killed her mother. Against the wishes of her aunt, who fears the moral and spiritual consequences of revenge, Maria has set a plot into motion that may reveal her mother’s killers – by using her father to discover them.
Hamlet’s Mouse-trap is told with a classical sensibility which reflects a family who are heirs to a dynasty that ruled the Russian Empire for over 300 years. They have as their extended family the Royal Houses of Europe and in their veins the blood of Peter the Great and Catherine II. The characters in this story carry not only the blood of their ancestors, but also the weight of their triumphs and tragedies. They are the keepers of old traditions and intimate family stories that have helped to shape Russian and European history."
