New Movie: Yellow Day

December 21st, 2015

One thing Christian films can often get criticized for is being similar to a lot of other Christian movies, or not being any more creative than any other film. Today, we wanted to let you know about a fascinating and different new Christian film, Yellow Day. This film is a unique blend of both live action and 3D CGI. Computer graphics are not often used in Christian movies, and it's exciting to see a new company trying something new and innovative. the synopsis for this movie reads:

"Yellow Day chronicles a young man's life-changing and inspirational journey through the mysterious Yellow Day. To many, the Yellow Day is simply a fun day celebrating outreach at a kid's camp, but to some, God bestows visions and miracles, transforming their lives. For this young man, the Yellow Day becomes an imaginative adventure: showing him true heroes, challenging him to face his fears, find love, and inviting him to accept grace, so that he can be shaped into who he is meant to be. On this day, the young man is presented remarkable stories in Faith, Hope, and Love coming from true stories of real life heroes in the special needs, chronic illness, and domestic abuse communities at the extraordinary Camp Grace, a beautiful retreat with the motto: "Lives are changed and souls are strengthened." Guided by a friendly 10-year-old girl, his spiritual journey back to the light, to witness the triumphs of others, face his fears, and fulfill his destiny, will test the strength of both his faith and his courage."

Yellow day will be in theaters on Christmas Day (which is only four days away!). If you want to purchase tickets, you can visit Fandango to purchase tickets. Spotlight: Redemption Way on Indiegogo

October 24th, 2015

We love spotlighting Christian films that are trying to get funded on Kickstarter or Indiegogo. It's important that we help support these projects, so we have more positive Christian media in the market. Today we want to spotlight Redemption Way, which is currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The synopsis on their page says:

My name is Brad Podowski. I am a Christ-follower, husband, dad, the owner of BP Video+ and a freelance camera operator and editor.

At the heart of this story, Redemption Way is about sharing our hope in eternity with those we love. Sharing my faith is particularly challenging for me, which is why I'm so personally invested in this project.

Your contribution not only makes this film possible, it also has the potential to change lives.

Making a film is an expensive endeavor, even for low budget filmmakers like myself who watch every penny. There are a tremendous amount of people who invest their time and talent into making a film and they need to be compensated in some form, even if it's simply food and credit. Catering alone can cost a minimum of $5,000 for an 18 day indie shoot, which is a tight schedule for a feature length film. It's very important to show the cast and crew how much they're appreciated, so at a minimum I want to be able to pay key members a stipend for their time. Here's a brief list of how the money will be used:

-Formation of an LLC
-Production Insurance
-Equipment Rental
-Travel and Lodging for Select Cast Members
-Key Cast and Crew Salaries (Depending on how much we raise)
-Professional Sound Mix
-Color Correction
-Hard drives
-Promotional items, etc

You can find out more information about this campaign over on their Indiegogo page: We really hope that this campaign is a success and we look forward to reviewing this movie someday when it's released. In the meantime however, they would really appreciate you sharing this project and helping spread the word. Together, we as Christians can support media that makes a difference!

Woodlawn in Theaters Now!

October 17th, 2015

Pure Flix and Erwin Brothers' Woodlawn in Theaters Now 2015

Looking for something to do this weekend? Well, another Christian film is appearing in theaters this weekend -- Woodlawn from PureFlix Entertainment and the Erwin Brothers! We've been anticipating the release of this movie for quite a while and we're glad to see another Christian movie getting a full theatrical release. The full synopsis for this film reads:

"A gifted high school football player must learn to boldly embrace his talent and his faith as he battles racial tensions on and off the field in WOODLAWN, a moving and inspirational new film based on the true story of how love and unity overcame hate and division in early 1970s Birmingham, Ala.

Tony Nathan (newcomer Caleb Castille) lands in a powder keg of anger and violence when he joins fellow African-American students at Woodlawn High School after its government-mandated desegregation in 1973. The Woodlawn Colonels football team is a microcosm of the problems at the school and in the city, which erupts in cross burnings and riots, and Coach Tandy Gerelds (Nic Bishop) is at a loss to solve these unprecedented challenges with his disciplinarian ways.

It’s only when Hank (Sean Astin), an outsider who has been radically affected by the message of hope and love he experienced at a Christian revival meeting, convinces Coach Gerelds to let him speak to the team that something truly remarkable begins to happen. More than 40 players, nearly the entire team, black and white, give their lives over to the “better way” Hank tells them is possible through following Jesus, and the change is so profound in them it affects their coach, their school and their community in ways no one could have imagined."

You can find out more about purchasing tickets on their website here. Are you planning on seeing this movie in theaters or have you already? If so, let us know your thoughts in the comments below! And as always, be sure to stay tuned as we bring you more news on all things Christian film!

3 Movies Available on DVD!

October 9th, 2015

A lot has happened in the past month or so in the Christian film world, and we wanted to quickly let you know about three new Christian movies that were recently released on DVD. These movies hit theaters a few months ago and have now finally come to DVD!

Beyond the Mask

The leading mercenary for the British East India Company, Will Reynolds has just been double-crossed and now is on the run in the American Colonies. Working to redeem his name and win back the affections of the woman with whom he's never been fully truthful, Will now hides behind a new mask in hopes of thwarting his former employer. As his past life closes in on him, Will must somehow gain the trust and the help of his beloved Charlotte - as well as Ben Franklin - while he races against time to defuse a plot of historical proportions. As Will Reynolds discovers, if we let true freedom ring, history can be redeemed!

Return to the Hiding Place

In Return to the Hiding Place Hans is drawn by resistance fighter, Piet Hartog, and love of Piet's life Aty van Woerden, Corrie ten Boom's niece, into an intricate web of espionage and clandestine activities centered in the famous Hiding Place.

As part of Corrie ten Boom's army of untrained teenagers, Hans, Piet, and their friends route a deadly labyrinth of challenges to rescue the Jewish people in their modern-day, panicked exodus from death while embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt with the underground involving Gestapo hijacks, courageous rescues, codes in windswept old windmills, and stunning wonders in one of history's most famous dramas. Climaxing in the true, breath-taking rescue of an entire orphanage of Jewish children marked for mass execution by Hitler's assassins, audiences will both cheer and weep at this exciting, sobering tale of Hans and the youth movement that dared to resist one of History's cruelest Dictator.

Faith of our Fathers

With the Vietnam War raging in 1969, two young fathers report for duty. A man of great faith and a doubtful cynic. A quarter-century later, their sons, Wayne and John Paul, meet as strangers.

Guided by handwritten letters from their fathers from the battlefield, they embark on an unforgettable journey to The Wall—the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Along the way, they discover the devastation of war cannot break the love of a father for his son. FAITH OF OUR FATHERS: a story of fatherhood; a journey of brotherhood.

Audacity Full Movie on Youtube

September 5th, 2015

Audacity Full Christian Movie 2015

A few months back we let you know about a new Christian movie by Ray Comfort, Audacity. If you haven't had a chance to view the film yet, the full movie is now available to watch for free on Youtube. Like Living Waters has done in the past with previous films like Evolution Vs. God, they're releasing this movie online so it can hopefully reach a wider audience. The synopsis for this film says:

"From Living Waters, creators of the award-winning TV program “The Way of the Master” and the hit movies “180” and “Evolution vs. God,” comes the powerful film “Audacity.” Executive produced by TV co-host and best-selling author Ray Comfort (Hell’s Best Kept Secret, Scientific Facts in the Bible), this film delivers an unexpected, eye-opening look at the controversial topic of homosexuality.

Peter (Travis Owens) is an aspiring comedian encouraged by his friend Ben (Ben Price, Australia’s Got Talent finalist) to perform at the local comedy club. But stage fright isn’t Peter’s only fear. When confronted with one of today’s most divisive issues, he feels compelled to speak, but can he? Challenged by his coworker Diana (Molly Ritter) to defend his convictions about homosexuality and gay marriage, will he have the courage to stand for what he believes—even at the risk of losing a friendship? And how will he respond when faced with a harrowing life-or-death experience?

“Audacity” uses a unique approach to address a very sensitive subject in contemporary society. Regardless of your views on homosexuality, you’ll gain fresh insights and a new perspective."

VIDEO: War Room Review

September 1st, 2015

We take a look at the newest film from the Kendrick Brothers, War Room!

This week, War Room, possibly the biggest Christian movie of the year, released in theaters around the country. This is the first film to come from the Kendrick brothers since Courageous back in August of 2011, and needless to say there has been a lot of anticipation leading up to the release of this film.

The Kendrick brothers have always been a big name in the Christian movie industry, and their movies Facing the Giants and Fireproof is what originally inspired us to start Christian Film Central. Their last film, Courageous is in our opinion the quintessential Christian movie. It has everything you need for a good movie, spiritual themes, elements of genuine humor, and also raw moments of serious emotion.
So how does War Room compare to their previous films? How does it stand on its own as a Christian movie?

Well to state it simply, War Room is a fantastic movie, and I enjoyed it a lot. It was powerful and convicting about the necessity of prayer in the home. I would probably even go so far as to say that War Room has the most powerful ending scene of any Kendrick Brothers film. When the credits rolled, we felt satisfied and the general mood was positive. There was even some discussion in the room that this movie needed to be seen by every Christian family in America.

The subject of prayer is an important topic to cover, and the filmmakers did an incredible job of showing the power and effectiveness of prayer in the home. Prayer should be an essential part of the home, as it brings the family together and unites them over a common bond. When we begin to remove prayer in the household, we begin to lose the focus of who is really in control of our family. This movie is a wonderful reminder of just how essential prayer is for the health and stability of the family.

So, in short, we loved this movie. However, we do have a few issues with War Room, especially in comparison with their previous films. The Kendrick Brothers have always been known for their special brand of humor that they inject into all of their films. For instance, we all remember the infamous “Snake Kings” scene from Courageous.

However, what little humor there was in War Room honestly fell flat, and I wouldn’t say there was one comedic scene in the film that really stuck with me afterwards. Rather than Sherwood Pictures, War Room was released through Sony’s Affirm Films, which led to some jarring Sony product placements throughout the film. I understand this is how the film industry works, and they do have to make money to make it a successful film, but I felt it took the focus off important story details at certain parts in the movie.

The production quality is top-notch, as we’ve come to expect from Christian movies nowadays, and with each movie the Kendrick Brothers always seem to take it up a notch visually. The story was powerful and moving, though we did feel the pacing was odd in a few key sections.

Overall, War Room was a fantastic film, and I can’t convey enough how powerful and moving the story was. The only reason we may be nitpicking a little is because this is the Kendrick Brothers. They’re basically the Pixar of the Christian film industry, always delivering the best and always working to perfect their craft. While War Room was an enjoyable film and definitely one of the best films to be released in 2015, it still seemed like a small step back from Courageous.

What is encouraging is the box office results for this weekend. War Room came in 2nd place for this weekend’s box office totals, and this includes other big name secular films. This goes to show that we as Christians do have a voice in what kind of media is produced. When people see that 2nd place at the box office this weekend was a low-budget Christian movie, they begin to realize that there is an audience for family-friendly films. It’s easy for us to complain about the moral decay in Hollywood and in media. But what we need to do, rather than criticize the bad is support the good. If we support what is moral and upright in the media world, we can make a difference in our culture.

All this is to say, go see War Room. Support this movie. We can highly recommend it as one of the best, if not the best Christian movie of 2015. This movie will change the way you think about prayer and encourage you to make it a part of your everyday routine.
